HEADTEACHER Susan Dixon stepped down from her role at Harlaxton Primary School unexpectedly at the end of last week.

Mrs Dixon, who had been headteacher of the school for 27 years, announced her decision on Thursday and left the school on Friday.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said: “The headteacher of Harlaxton Primary School has, for personal and family reasons, taken the decision to retire at short notice after 27 years of dedicated service.

“We thank Sue for all her efforts and leadership of the school.”

A county council spokesman said Denton Primary School headteacher Sheridan Edwards will be providing support for Harlaxton School until a permanent successor to Mrs Dixon is appointed.

Ofsted inspectors were at Harlaxton Primary School last week.

The county council spokesman said: “Ofsted were in the school last week, but this isn’t the reason for Mrs Dixon’s departure.”

In the school’s last inspection, in 2008, the school received an overall grade of ‘satisfactory’.

The findings of the most recent inspection are yet to be published.
