FIRST-YEAR students at Charles Read Academy, in Corby Glen, embarked upon an Eden Project-inpired venture.

The group of 15 pupils were taking part in a schools’ team challenge and enterprise event. Mixed with other participating schools, they were put into teams of six and challenged to come up with an idea along the lines of Cornwall’s Eden Project.

Each group had project, finance and design managers and a construction engineer. Together they had to design, cost and construct a model based on a triangular shape of no more than six triangles high, big enough to contain two people.

Five groups of students were then chosen to present their projects to the whole group.

Head of Year 7 Jenny Harris said: “All the students said how good it was to discover that they could work with other schools as a team.”
