PUPILS of Harlaxton Primary School put on their top hats and flat caps on ‘History Day’.
Youngsters in Years 5 and 6 spent a day in the Victorian era dressed in the clothing of the period and took traditional numeracy and literacy lessons writing on slates.
The day took place on Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, and every student sent a card to the Queen to give her their congratulations.
The day was organised by History off the Page, history in schools specialists, who brought with them many Victorian artefacts for the children to discover such as washing dollies and a mangle.
The day wasn’t all hard learning and laundry - play was also done the Victorian way with traditional hoops and sticks.
History off the Page offers a range of learning experiences which revolve around practical learning and enjoyment to help the pupils learn.
