Senior competition manager for Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, Geoff Maltby, helped to organise the event.

He said: “It went really well. I was impressed by the level of talent on show.”

This is the second year the competition has run and the Grantham area teams did well leading Lincolnshire to second place overall with a total of 75,386m rowed.

Geoff said: “Rowing is very popular in schools around the Grantham area. The students take it seriously and are very good at it.”

At Key Stage 4 level the boys did incredibly well with Luke Wren and Christian Dove taking the top two places in their team competition. Organisers hope the championships will continue next year but funding cuts make this uncertain.
