Dancing and the crowning of a king and queen were among the highlights of a village school’s May fair.

Glorious sunshine welcomed visitors to the Bythams Primary School event on Saturday, and when the proceeds were counted up at the end of the day, the grand total amounted to £1,800.

Children from Pumas class entertained by dancing round the Maypole and the other classes also performed a dance extravaganza.

Hannah Watson crowned Sophie Broom May Queen and Ben Pearsall bestowed the honour on King Sam Duxbury.

Attractions included tombolas, face painting, space hopper racing and rock climbing.

The children really enjoyed throwing wet sponges at the teachers and the tug of war at the end of the event was a big hit with families.

Headteacher Richard Clarke said: “The day was fantastic, and it was great to see such wonderful support from the school and community.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all the families for coming in and joining in with the fun, the local businesses that donated prizes, and all the pupils, parents and staff who helped.”

Proceeds from the annual event will be spent over next year on equipment and materials for the children.
