Teachers in numerous Grantham schools on strike

Have your say

Teachers in a number of schools in the Grantham area are on strike today and many pupils have been told to stay at home.

Thousands of teachers in the region in the NUT and NASUWT unions are striking over pay, pensions and working conditions. Barkston Primary is the only school in the Grantham area which is fully closed but a number of others are partially closed with children in particular years told not to go in.

At King’s School, Years 7 and 11 have been told to stay at home. In a letter to parents Headmaster Frank Hedley said: “The Governing Body has undertaken a risk assessment regarding the health, safety and welfare of students and non-striking staff on October 1 in the absence of some teaching staff.

“Having considered this matter very carefully we have decided to close the school to students in Years 7 and 11. The school will remain open for students in Years 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13.

“In the event of disruption to lessons, boys will have a supervised private study session in the main school hall.”

Other schools in the Grantham area which have remained partially open are Ambergate, Claypole, Cliffedale, Sandon, Walton Girls’, Priory Ruskin and Sir William Robertson.
