England hockey star Shona McCallin opens new building at Grantham Prep School
Special guest Shona McCallin, a member of the England hockey team, opened a new building at Grantham Preparatory International School last Saturday.
The sports star, who trains full time with the Great Britain hockey team and was a member of the winning team that won the Euro hockey championships last August, was delighted to officially open the new building.
She was joined by directors Andrew McEwen and Virginia Fernandez and many of the parents, teachers and pupils, both past and present.
Headteacher Kathryn Korcz, who was there at the grand opening, said: “It was a very exciting day for us all. This new building will act as space for us to provide the best opportunities for our pupils.”
The new building, which was completed in a record seven months by Gelders, has provided the school with a new dining hall, library, science room, art room with kiln and a dedicated space for the after school club.
The building itself has wide spacious corridors and is fitted with under floor heating. It is flooded with natural light and has fantastic views over Grantham.
During the open day the children provided a short concert for visitors. The infants recited ‘The Night Before Christmas’, whilst the choir sang, and the band played a variety of Christmas music.
After the concert the pupils took part in a variety of craft and science activities within the new classrooms and at 1.30pm headed outside to set off helium balloons.
The headteacher added: “Our visitors were all impressed with the new facilities and our pupils had fun. It was a happy day and will provide lasting memories for us all.
“It also marks an important step in the development of the school.”
