Conservation area needs funding

A CONSERVATION area in London Road, Grantham, should get more funding, according to South Kesteven District Councillor Charmaine Morgan.

Coun Morgan, who is a member of Conserving Grantham (see above), recently found out that the Victorian parade of shops on both sides of London Road, leading from The Salvation Army Citadel to Wharf Road, is already in a conservation area.

She is now asking that the district council and Lincolnshire County Council spend some of the money being used on the shop fronts in the town centre in this area.

She said: “This lovely parade of shops, with its wide range of architectural styles visible especially at first floor level and with landmark buildings including The Stagger Inn and Salvation Army Citadel needs attention. It has been neglected and there has been little effort to enforce its existing conservation area status with shopkeepers. It is a key gateway into Grantham.”
