South Kesteven District Council is reminding residents to carefully recycle their used or unwanted holiday items when they return from their break or while on staycation.

Sun cream bottles, unwanted clothes including swimming towels, shoes and flip flops, sunglasses and many children’s plastic beach toys are among the common holiday items that can be recycled.
The full list of what can be deposited in silver bins and clear bags and black bins and pink bags can be found by visiting

Alternatively residents can request an SKDC recycling guide by calling 01476 40 60 80.

If staying at home, residents are also asked to consult the guide when enjoying the holidays. For example, disposable barbeques cannot be recycled and need to be placed in black bins or pink bags once fully extinguished and larger garden furniture needs to be taken to the household waste and recycling centre in Grantham.

SKDC’s portfolio holder for healthy environment Councillor John Smith said: “We know holidaymakers often return with items that need disposing of. We’re asking they take just a few minutes to check what they put in each bin or bag is correct. If in doubt check the website or give us a call to receive a recycling guide.

“For clothes or shoes either recycle them in your silver bin or clear bag or use local charity shops. For those on a staycation, we also ask residents to take extra care to recycle items from parties, barbeques or days out.

“The holidays are the perfect opportunity to show children what goes in each bin or bag and why being a responsible recycler is so important.”
