The leader of a town clean-up group says he will talk to local supermarkets to try and find a way to stop trolleys being dumped in the River Witham.
John Knowles says trolleys are regularly found in the river by Rivercare volunteers and he would like to discuss the situation with the supermarkets.
At the weekend the group retrieved 22 bags of rubbish, four trolleys, a bike, a computer printer, two road signs and other items.
Mr Knowles said: “Despite only having been out a few weeks earlier there was plenty of rubbish to clear, which of course reflects
badly on certain local people who thoughtlessly discard whatever they don’t want into this delightful stretch of river. What a good job we have a Rivercare team in Grantham who who are prepared to give up their time cleaning up the river so that it not only looks good but is a suitable habitat for wildlife. Some members of the group were fortunate enough to see a kingfisher skimmimg low across the water in Sedgwick Meadow.”
