Community groups, schools and businesses braved the wind and rain to tackle The Great British Spring Clean at the weekend.
The dedicated national initiative saw South Kesteven District Council’s streetcare services department provide litter pickers, gloves and high vis vests to assist efforts including teams from Mcdonald’s Grantham, Priory Ruskin Academy and Grantham Sunrise Rotary Club.
The initiative, from March 3 to 5, saw dozens of bags of rubbish collected as groups headed out in poor weather to litter pick and make pathways and public areas cleaner.
It built on the successful Clean for the Queen campaign which ran on the same weekend in 2016.
SKDC’s executive member for environment Councillor Nick Craft said: “Our thanks go out to those individuals and groups that took the time to pick up litter in far from ideal conditions on Friday and Sunday.
“Their commitment to help the district be cleaner and greener is a credit to their respective organisations from employees of businesses, hard working community groups and school pupils and staff.”
