Excellence award for Grantham pub The Blue Pig




A Grantham pub has won an excellence award at an annual event held by the UK’s largest owner and operator of community pubs,

Ei Group announced The Blue Pig, in Vine Street, as the winner of the ‘Excellence in Cellar Standards’ at its annual Awards for Excellence.

The Blue Pig is run by Jackie Sentance, who is committed to delivering an excellent product with fantastic service to her customers every time, by ensuring everything behind the scenes is in perfect order.

From the moment beers are delivered, Jackie looks after and conditions them, cleans beer lines every seven days, and trains her staff to pour and serve pints correctly, in the right glasses. She takes great care to ensure that she and her team serve perfect pints every time.

Ei Group chief executive Simon Townsend said: “More than 90 per cent of consumers say the quality of beer is the most important factor when ordering a drink, with two thirds rejecting poor quality pints. So the importance of the cellar keeper’s role must never be underestimated, and this award celebrates those, like Jackie, who ensure their cellars are kept to an extremely high standard, making sure customers get a perfect pint every time.”

The Awards for Excellence recognise and celebrate the achievements of the best publicans across the group, which operates some 4,400 pubs in England and Wales.

Each pub faced scrutiny from a judging panel made up of industry experts and senior figures before site visits were conducted by pub expert Phil Dixon.
