An experienced teacher is setting up a new weekly tutoring centre in the Guildhall to help students with their English and maths.

Having taught various age groups both in the UK and USA over the last 20 years, on returning to the area five years ago Caroline Cowling has decided to open a First Class Learning centre in Grantham.

Impressed by the approach of the First Class Learning franchise which has tuition centres all over the country, Caroline who is a qualified teacher with a BA and Masters in special education, is opening a Grantham centre which caters for those aged from four up to 16.

Caroline explained: “The First Class Learning materials in maths and English are all designed and printed in the UK to meet the outcomes of the National Curriculum. As such the materials are very relevant to what the children are doing in school. We assess each child in order to find out what it is they need and from there we will design an individual programme of study for the child.”

Starting with an open day at the Guildhall from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, January 10, where parents and children interested in the tuition can find out more, classes will begin on Wednesday, January 14 from 4pm to 6pm.

They will then run every Wednesday at the same time in the Guildhall, in the form of 30 minute sessions either in groups or on a one-to-one basis, depending on individual needs, with good study habits encouraged by setting 10 minutes homework per night.

“Extra tuition increases understanding and gives students the confidence and self-esteem to put their hand up in class at school,” Caroline adds.

“The pupil is the centre of what we do. They progress in small manageable steps which keeps confidence high. There is constant consolidation which ensures adequate practice without demoralizing repetition. Pupils know what they are doing and why they are doing it – with clear objectives and on-going self-assessment pupils stay motivated.”

As well as details including prices available on the open day you can contact Caroline to find out more by emailing grantham@firstclasslearning.co.uk, calling 01476 403122 or going to www.firstclasslearning.co.uk/grantham
