Fire on grass railway embankment north of Grantham cancels trains

Trains were delayed yesterday (Sunday) while firefighters dealt with a fire along 100m of grass railway embankment at Dry Doddington.

A Grantham crew attended the scene in Clensey Lane just before 1.20pm and used one hose reel and two beaters to extinguish the flames.

Trains scheduled to travel along the East Coast Main Line in the afternoon were cancelled.

According to Virgin Trains East Coast, the disruption came to an end by 10.50pm and services were resumed.
