Fire starts in machinery at Caythorpe recycling plant

A recycling company says a fire started at its premises this morning among machinery.

The fire started at Mid Uk Recycling Ltd in Caythorpe. Six fire appliances attended the scene.

A spokesman for Mid Uk Recycling said: "We had a small fire at 2am this morning on a machine at our Caythorpe site. The site does not operate overnight but our flame detection system picked up the fire and alerted our overnight security supervisor who then followed emergency procedures.

"Fire crews attended, isolated the fire and extinguished it. They had left the site by 6am.There was no danger to personnel or damage to any other equipment. We will be investigating the cause of the fire but there are no suspicious circumstances.”

Residents in the area were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Appliances were sent from Brant Broughton, Sleaford, Grantham, Donington, Newark and Gainsborough.

Jets, hose reels, high volume pumps and supporting appliances were used to put out the fire.
