FIRE stations across the county have been fitted with solar panels which are expected to save up to £100,000 per year.

A total of 21 fire stations in Lincolnshire have ben fitted with solar panels thanks largely to a Government grant.

Andy Whitfield, Group Manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “It is something we have been working on for the past two years, fitting the cells throughout the county.

“Each roof has a different aspect so we have to treat them all individually to get the best out of each to generate the most electricity.”

The most recent fire station to get the ‘photovoltaic’ solar panels is at Corby Glen.

Andy said: “Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are pleased to have contributed to a greener future through our innovative eco-fire stations, whilst providing an efficient and effective emergency service to protect the people of Lincolnshire.”
