Flash mob surprises cinema-goers during interval
Cinema-goers were treated to a surprise flash mob performance at the premiere of the new Military Wives movie last week.
Cranwell Military Wives Choir joined sister choirs from across Lincolnshire at the Kinema in the Woods, Woodhall Spa, last Monday.
As the curtain closed for the interval, the choir members jumped up from their seats and serenaded the audience with a performance of ‘Together we are stronger’.
Choir member Carolyn Newton Brown said: “We love a night out and what better way to see the movie premiere than with a trip to the cinema to see it together.
“We tend to sing wherever we are when we’re in a group and so when the opportunity arose in the interval to sing with other Lincolnshire choirs who were also there, we jumped at the chance.”
The footage from the performance has been viewed thousands of times online.
The film goes on general release on Monday and the choir plans to perform at one of the screenings at the Savoy Cinema in Grantham. Many choirs across the country and overseas have similar plans to mark the opening.
Formed in 2012, the Cranwell Military Wives Choir is one of 75 UK choirs across the UK and overseas, who are part of the Military Wives Choirs network.
Families of service personnel move around frequently, and it can often be tough to put down roots or make new friends.
With research showing that singing in a choir alleviates stress and improves aspects of mental health, Military Wives Choirs provide an opportunity to sing as part of a group and make new friends who understand military life.
The choir meet weekly to rehearse at RAF Cranwell and are currently looking for a new permanent musical director.
