Fund-raisers on course to raise £150k refurb costs

Fund-raisers seeking £150,000 to refurbish an historic village church are one-sixth of the way to their target after just six months.

The money will be used at St Mary Magdalene Church, at Waltham, to make the building more accessible and to improve its capacity to host community and social events.

Church council chairman Mike Alexander said: “We are still hard at work applying for grants from which we hope to raise the majority of the £150,000 which we need.

“We have a banner and ‘Tower-ometer’ in the churchyard which will keep everyone updated with our progress.

“Our total raised from fund-raising so far stands at a fantastic £24,883.”

Next fundraiser is a charity performance by Corby Male Voice Choir on Friday September 11, at 7.30pm.

A ‘Ride and Stride’ event on Saturday, September 12, will raise further cash for the cause. Adults pay £5 and children £2 to walk or cycle a one-mile course or one of six to eight miles.

To buy £7 tickets for the choir or to enter the walk or cycle call Helen on 01664 464597 or Chris on 01664 464338.
