Kirkby Underwood funeral celebrant Katrine Hudson will trek the Sahara Desert for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance

An intrepid funeral celebrant will be taking part in a gruelling 100 kilometre trek through the Sahara Desert to raise money for the air ambulance.

Katrine Hudson from Kirkby Underwood will jet off to Marrakech in Morrocco where the epic walk in aid of the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance begins.

The married 42 year-old with one daughter, said: “I made a list of reasons why I should and why I should not do the challenge and there was nothing on the list why I shouldn't.

"Last year, I saw first-hand how the air ambulance works when it came to help a member of my village. They were exceptional. In my job as a funeral celebrant, a lot of families donate to the charity."

Katrine, who has ongoing health issues including having had a stroke, added: "It’s just a worthy cause and you never know when you might need it."

The walk will take in stunning sand dunes, including the giant Erg Zaher which is the furthest point from civilisation, and beautiful sunsets. The group will be camping amongst the dunes and temperatures when they set off, at the end of September, will be about 30 degrees.

“It takes half a day to get to the start and the trek covers 100km over five days,” Katrine said.

“I’d love to raise more than £1,600 for the charity - that is my personal aim. It would be great if I could get it to £2,500.

“All my friends and family are right behind me.”

Katrine is holding a Night at the Oscars-themed fundraising ball on Saturday, June 15 at Sissons Barn, Peakirk, which have kindly donated the use of their newly purpose-built events barn.

Tables of 10 can be booked at £60 per person, which includes a three-course meal, auction and entertainment.
