Swimmers took to the pool for the 2016 RotarySwimarathon which kicked off yesterday (Friday, February 5).

In its 27th year, the biggest fundraising community event in the Grantham calendar, over three days, once again got under way at The Meres Leisure Centre, with the first claxon sounding at 1.30pm.

And teams were joined at 4.30pm by a special guest – Olympic and Commonwealth GB swimmer Sophie Allen.

The Swimarathon is organised by the Rotary Club of Grantham and will this year see almost 1,400 people swimming over the three days to raise money for community causes.

Teams from local schools, including for the first time Claypole Primary School, will be swimming their best alongside scout groups, local businesses and family teams.
