Enjoy all the fun of the fair at Grantham Carnival
Grantham Carnival is back this weekend (June 16 and 17) to bring a fun-packed family atmosphere to the town.
Thousands will enjoy the parade tomorrow (Saturday) as well as the fun fair, stalls and an exciting arena programme in Wyndham Park.
Music is provided in the Party in the Park by Status Quo tribute band Counterfeit Quo supported by local band The System and the Carousel Roadshow. (starts 7.30pm, tickets at £13 from Guildhall box office, under-12s free).
Roy Wright and his Grantham Carnival and Events group have spent the past year organising this year’s spectacle. The fun will start at noon with the parade when it winds its way from Market Place along the High Street and St Peter’s Hill, down St Catherine’s Road, along Sandon Road, down Hill Avenue and into Wyndham Park.
This year’s theme is Myths and Legends so expect to see some fancy costumes on the floats in the parade this year.
Amid the dancers, scouts, schools, and emergency services, a 103 year-old and 104-year-old will also join the parade.
Wyndham Park will again feature a large display of fire engines, a fun fair, displays, new cars and dance shows.
Arena entertainment over both days will include a dog display team, fantastic falconry, local dance groups, and carnival bands.
There will be an ACF Cadets Display Area along with an Army Display and Recruitment Unit.
There will be the annual classic car show in Elizabeth Park on Sunday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Another highlight will be a flypast by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire at 1.20pm on Saturday.
At about the same time on Sunday will also see a flypast by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster.
The Red Arrows will perform a formation flight on Sunday at 5.45pm.
Entry to the carnival is free both days. Free parking is available in Queen Elizabeth Park on Saturday only.
A full run-down of the weekend's events, including what's happening in the arena, can be found in today's Grantham Journal.
