An Ingoldsby couple who lived opposite each other when they were children celebrate their golden wedding on Saturday, May 25.
Keith and Jenny Wilkins, who live in Main Street, became friends when they were growing up in Virginia Water in Surrey and went to the local youth club together.
Keith, 73, became a policeman and eventually joined the Metropolitan Police in 1969. He later moved in to royalty protection and came to know some members of the Royal Family well. This allowed Jenny, 71, to meet some of the royals including the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and the Prince and Princess of Wales. There was one moment when Jenny had a six-year-old Prince William sat on her knee.
Keith retired from the police in 1992 and took up a job with the security team at the Bank of England. Jenny did secretarial work for an estate agency. In 1998 they moved to Ingoldsby as they had wanted to eventually retire to a rural part of the country.
Both Keith and Jenny now work part-time at Asda, Jenny making pizzas and Keith in the rotisserie area. The couple have two sons and a grandson and granddaughter.
Jenny is a keen gardener and is a member of Grantham Choral Society and the church choir of the North Beltisloe group of parishes. She also plays the piano and enjoys photography. Keith also enjoys gardening, keep fit, playing the guitar, watching sport and listening to a broad spectrum of music.
Jenny said: “We never really have an argument. We share everything at home. We are fairly placid people really.”
Keith said: “I have never contemplated us not being together.”
