Grantham allotment holder grows whopper of a pumpkin

Owen Pugh is quite rightly proud of the giant pumpkin he has grown on his Grantham allotment.

The impressive pumpkin finally weighed 45kg after five months of growth.

Owen, who works for the Woodland Trust in Grantham, said: “I’m delighted to have grown something so big in the first year of having an allotment.

"I wasn’t expecting it but I am thrilled at such a positive boost for my budding green fingers which will now go from strength to strength in their ambition. We’ve divided it up and some of it has already gone to making cake and bread.”
