Grantham awash with big- hearted Santa fun runners

Have your say

A HUNDRED Santas lined Castlegate on Saturday morning to take part in the first ever Grantham Santa Fun Run and Walk.

The race was organised to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation and St Wulfram’s Church - with Canon Christopher Andrews one of the Santa fund-raisers.

Between them, the charity and the church are expected to receive thousands of pounds from the event when all the sponsorship money is in.

Mayor of Grantham Coun Mike Taylor was the race starter and was also on hand along with district council chairman Mike Cook to hand out the medals at the end.

The winner of the 3km run was 16-year-old Adam Tomlinson who was back at the St Wulfram’s finishing line after just ten minutes. Second place was David Meredith.

Prizes were also awarded for the best dressed dog, best dressed child and best dressed pushchair.

On Saturday St Wulfram’s also hosted a Christmas indoor market with dozens of stalls selling items and numerous others hosting competitions.

A steady crowd came and went throughout the day while Santa - the real one - was kept busy in his grotto.
