Grantham-born Margaret Thatcher suggested as face of American currency

The face of Grantham-born Margaret Thatcher has been suggested for the new $10 bill by US Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush.

Mr Bush put forward the former British Prime Minister as a new face for US money during a TV debate between Republican presidential hopefuls, the BBC reports.

All 11 candidates were asked for their suggestions, with Mother Teresa and Rosa Parks also chosen.

Although Mr Bush’s pick drew applause, he acknowledged that it was “probably illegal” and unlikely to happen because Baroness Thatcher is not American.

However this has not stopped Al-Jazeera tweeting a mock-up of the UK’s only female Prime Minister on a $10 bill.
