Grantham bridge open...but chaos on the roads continues

Roads in Grantham town centre remain clogged this morning (Tuesday), reportedly due in part to the late reopening of Barrowby Road.

As reported by the Journal online yesterday, the road was closed at the railway bridge yesterday afternoon to allow Network Rail workers to investigate falling ballast (stones) from the track.

A Network Rail spokesman confirmed works to the bridge were complete at 2.40am this morning, but the road was not reopened until some hours later.

A resident of Barrowby Gate said just minutes ago that the area remains gridlocked with traffic.

Heavy traffic may also be down to a burst water main in Sankt Augustin Way.

More to follow.
