A comedy night mixing laughter and the serious state of the NHS is set for Grantham this month.

Performer and campaigner Steven Carne will deliver his musical comedy campaign show in the function room of the Sir Isaac Newton pub on High Street from 8pm on Good Friday, March 30.

The ‘cabaret-style’ NHS campaign show is organised by the NHS Fighting4Life Lincolnshire campaign group and is aimed at over 14s.

Co-founder Melissa Darcey, an NHS researcher and campaigner, works with Steven. The London/Cambridge based actor has supported various Lincolnshire campaigns, including speaking at Grantham’s NHS Uprising march last October.

Melissa said: “‘Special Measures’ is a complex, needy show for all ages, with songs, stories and memories of four years in the NHS campaign. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll probably want to swear a bit, but you will leave wanting to do more. It’s a nice event for us to get together and learn about NHS campaigning.”

Steven has earned much praise from campaigners for his nationwide tour, which weaves jokes, songs, economics and funding mechanisms into a caberet.

He said: “No one in their right mind wakes up and decides to be an NHS campaigner. It creeps up and takes you over. Once you begin and see what is going on in our healthcare service you can’t stop yourself.”

Entry is free but campaigners hope for a £5-10 donation.
