Car parking on St Catherine’s Road in Grantham will reopen to the public this weekend after the completion of archaeological works.

The excavation, on the site of the town’s new multi-million pound cinema and restaurant complex, unearthed a few finds including small pieces of pottery and flint....and a more up-to-date find, a Wellington boot.

Councillor Jacky Smith, cabinet member with responsibility for major development projects, said the excavation was the first step to achieving a fantastic new facility for Grantham.

She said: “Grantham is steeped in history but on this occasion we found nothing that would interrupt the construction process which is good news for the project. We can now look forward to our long-awaited multiplex which will not only benefit the town but the surrounding area.”

The car park is open to the public on weekdays after 6pm and at weekends.
