Avery Lodge Care Home in Grantham has been named the best care home in the country in a prestigous competiton.
Home Manager Kerry Angeloni and Recreational and Leisure Co-ordinator Helen Brown picked up the award at a glamourous ceremony in London at the 15th annual National Care Awards.
The award was given last Friday at the Hilton Hotel in London. It was presented by former cricketer Phil Tufnell and Sky Sports presenter Olivia Godfrey.
To begin with, Kerry and Helen were required to write a 500-word pitch explaining why the Beacon Lane care home deserved to win. They were then invitied to an interview in London, to which they took dozens of positive letters from staff, residents and families.
Once they were through to the final round, they attended a ceremony which felt “like the Oscars”.
Kerry said it was “amazing” to win and showed the fantastic relationship between the care home and its residents. She attributed their win to the “family bonds between the carers”.
The residents held a simultaneous party to celebrate being nominated, although most had gone to bed by the time the good news was announced.
Kerry has worked at the care home since it opened in 2009, and Helen has worked there for three-and-a-half years.
