Grantham cheerleaders win haul of trophies at festival

Young Grantham cheerleaders returned home with a haul of trophies at their first cheer and dance competition of the season.

The athletes from Lincolnshire Cheerleading Academy, (LCA) were awarded 16 first and two second place trophies at the Frost Festival, Leicester, in November.

The cheerleaders, who are all aged between five and 30, entered in a variety of categories including solo jazz, solo lyrical, solo pom, solo tumble, duo pom and tumble routines.

Head coach and co-founder, Amanda Zenou-Phillips, who set up LCA in 2016 after moving to Grantham from Tenerife, said: “ I am so proudof all our LCA athletes. They always give 100 per cent and are such team players. It’s fantastic to see how their confidence has grown both at cheer and outside of cheer. A big shout out goes to our tiny athlete Milla Walker, who at just six years old has exceeded all expectations and won herself a first place for her solo pom routine.”

After setting up in April 2016 from a room in Grantham Museum, LCA have since rented out spaces in Oceans gym and the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks before moving to their very own gym in Limesquare Business Park, Alma Park Road, which comes complete with a sprung floor, last August.

They now have over 100 members aged between three and 32 who have competed in some of the most elite cheerleading championship competitions.

Amanda added: “We also offer recreational cheer classes for all ages as well as our popular tumbling/gymnastic classes. We are also starting a masters class for anyone aged 25 years and over.”
