A motorist was more than twice over the legal drink-drive limit when he was found by his car in the car park of The Meres stadium in Grantham, a court heard.

Police officers came across Mihails Gerasimovs, 34, at around 3.45am on September 13. They saw him and a woman stood next to a vehicle which was running and had its lights on and front doors open. They were arguing.

Both smelled of alcohol and officers found a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of Coca Cola in a footwell of the vehicle.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, told magistrates how Gerasimovs denied having consumed any alcohol before arriving at the stadium.

Stuart Wild, defending, said: “He’s genuinely remorseful he’s found himself in trouble with the police.”

Gerasimovs, of Rugby Court, Grantham, pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months, with the option of reducing it by 20 weeks on completion of a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

He was also fined £300 and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £35 victim surcharge and £150 criminal courts charge.
