A sex offender who failed to register his details with police, as part of the annual notification procedure, has been fined.
Jamie Birch, aged 44, of Grantley Street, is on the sex offenders register following a conviction for possessing indecent images of children in 2010.
Birch must now attend Grantham police station annually to register his details, but on October 6 officers noticed that he hadn’t come in.
The management officer attempted to make contact with Birch and left a couple of voicemails, before getting through to him on October 14.
Birch then attended the police station voluntarily and said that he had forgotten it was in October, thinking instead he was due to register in November.
After his client pleaded guilty to failure to comply with the notification requirements, Rob Arthur said that part of the problem was that when an offender registered early the previous year, as Birch did in October 2013, they sometimes didn’t realise they were due earlier the following year too.
Mr Arthur also said Birch had missed the initial phone calls because his mobile had been run over by a fork-lift truck.
Birch was fined £320, and in addition must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.
