A doctor from the West Midlands who was stopped by police in Grantham appeared before magistrates.

Doctor Sonia Val-Carreres, 45, of Dora Street, Walsall pleaded guilty to the charge of driving whilst disqualified in Grantham.

Prosecutor Marie Stace told the court how on May 9 a policeman on patrol was alerted to the presence of a disqualified driver on Manthorpe Road.

Val-Carreres who was driving her Landrover Freelander was stopped, but during questioning said that did not know that she had been disqualified.

Chris Pye-Smith, defending, reiterated that his client had absolutely no knowledge that she had been disqualified until the arrest on May 9.

Mr Pye-Smith said that his client quite correctly entered a guilty plea as not being aware of the ban does not over-rule the disqualification, but asked magistrates’ to take into consideration this significant mitigating circumstance.

Val-Carreres was given an absolute discharge.
