A motorist who stalled twice at traffic lights in Grantham has been banned from driving for three-and-a-half years for drink driving.

William George Clamp, 33, of Oasby, admitted drink driving on November 13 in Grantham.

Prosecuting, Jim Clare told the court that Clamp was stopped by police in North Parade at 2.30am after seeing his Peugeot pull out from traffic lights in Swinegate.

He gave a positive roadside breath test and a test at Grantham Police Station read 85 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol.

Defending, Stuart Wild said Clamp had finished his shift the previous evening at 11pm.

He was staying in town with a friend and had gone to a pub where he had four or five pints of beer with the intention of walking back to the house.

Mr Wild said after leaving the pub, Clamp had walked past his car and foolishly got into it, thinking he could drive.

He stalled twice at the traffic lights in Swinegate.

Magistrates disqualified Clamp from driving for 42 months.

He was not offered the drink driver’s rehabilitation course because he had been convicted of drink driving a few years before.

Clamp was also fined £260 and ordered to pay a criminal courts charge of £150, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £26.
