Grantham court: Offender carried weapons

Court news

A Grantham man has breached the community order he received after being found with drugs, a kitchen knife, and a knuckleduster while wheeling his bike through town with a bar stool on the seat.

Colin Johns, 30, of Tennyson Avenue, Grantham admitted missing probation appointments as part of the 12 month community order and six month drug rehabilitation requirement he received in July for possession of amphetamine, cannabis, a knife and an offensive weapon.

Kiran Patel of Lincolnshire Probation said that Johns had failed to attend two appointments and to respond to subsequent letters, resulting in the charge of failing to comply with the community order.

Rachel Woodcock, defending, said her client had contacted probation regarding the first appointment to say he had a chest infection, but then did not provide any medical certificate as evidence.

Miss Woodcock added that Johns had been regularly attending Addaction, and was concerned about any addition of unpaid work to his order because he had recently secured employment at a building site.

Johns must pay a £80 fine for the breach, and £75 probation costs.
