Grantham court: Prisoner on licence accused of fraud and theft

Court news.
Court news.

A 29-year-old woman who has been released on licence following a two-year prison sentence last June, was unable to attend Grantham Magistrates’ Court to answer four fraud charges and one theft charge.

Nicola Lehair has been released on licence from HMP East Sutton Park in Maidstone and now lives in Kent. As well as being subject to an electronically monitored curfew, a condition of her release is that she does not enter Grantham.

Nevertheless she was listed to appear before Grantham magistrates to answer five charges. Three charges of fraud by false representation allege that she withdrew money from banks accounts belonging the same person, while she is also accused of forging a signature for monetary gain.

The earliest of these alleged offences dates back to January 20, 2011.

She is also charged with stealing £998.68 from two people between December 31, 2011 and December 8, 2012.

Grantham court agreed to adjourn the case to Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on March 10.
