Grantham court: Row with ex led to physical fight

When a Grantham man went to collect his belongings from his ex he ended up committing criminal damage and assault, the court heard.

Paul Smith, 44, of Kingscliffe Road, admitted damaging a TV and mobile phone and to assaulting a woman by beating on September 28.

Prosecutor Daniel Pietryka told magistrates that the incident happened three days after their relationship ended. Smith had returned to their home to collect his belongings, expecting his ex to be out at work. However on finding her there a row ensued which developed into a physical fight, during which he damaged a small TV and her phone. He also grabbed his former partner by the back of her neck.

Sonia Bhalla, defending, added that a retraction statement had been made since the incident, and asked for the case to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Smith remains on conditional bail not to contact the complainant.
