A woman stole a bottle of wine from Lidl after forgetting her purse.

Ieva Banuskevicilute, 33, admitted stealing a bottle of Rioja Joven wine, valued at £3.99, from the store in Watergate, Grantham, on April 19.

Prosecuting, Daniel Pietryka told the court that Banuskevicilute had put the wine in her bag and replaced a number of other items on the shelf when she realised she had forgtten her purse.

Simon Cobb, defending, said the defendant had gone shopping for groceries and she had got to the point of paying when she realised she had not got her purse with her.

Mr Cobb said there was ‘no rhyme or reason’ why she should steal a bottle worth £3.99, as both she and her partner were working and they had no financial problems.

He said: “She is under no illusion that if she continues in this vain where she will end up.”

Magistrates fined Banuskevicilute £175 and ordered her to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
