Grantham firefighters protect kennels from blaze

By Grantham Reporter

Grantham firefighters have been praised for their prompt action, which protected a popular local kennels from a blaze on adjoining farmland.

The crew from Grantham and colleagues from Leicestershire extinguished flames which spread from farm machinery to a cornfield alongside Old Station Kennels in Waltham, on Sunday afternoon.

The kennels are happy to confirm that the fire has had absolutely no impact on the business or its doggy guests.

As a precaution, emergency procedures were ready and several staff were on site in case they needed to be implemented. However, the wind took smoke away from the kennels and the dogs were never in danger.

The incident happened at one of the kennels’ busiest times of year, during the holiday season.

Owner Felicity Higgs said: “We’d like to thank the Lincolnshire and Leicestershire fire services for doing their job so brilliantly.

“The important thing is that our dogs were safe at all times. We contacted all our customers who had dogs staying with us within an hour of the fire, to reassure them that their pets were completely unaffected.”

The full range of boarding, training and day care services offered by Old Station Kennels are available as usual.
