Two friends will run their first marathon to raise funds for a Grantham man who has been diagnosed with a rare cancer.

Jason Taylor and Paul Stokes will run the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham on September 25. They are raising funds for Karl Bullimore who was diagnosed with cancer last year.

Jason and Paul have taken part in half marathons and other races before, but never a full marathon.

Jason, who works for Chandlers at Belton, said: “Karl has done a lot for local football and sport. We have been planning on doing a marathon so we thought this was a good cause. We hope to raise between £3,000 and £4,000.”

He added: “The marathon is going to be tough, but it’s something I have always wanted to do.”

Paul, who runs Oscar’s Wine Bar in Guildhall Street, said: “I am 40 in January and it’s something I have wanted to do before then.”

Karl’s family are trying to raise £50,000 to pay for their father’s treatment and research. They were told there is only a slim chance of Karl’s cancer being treated with drugs on the NHS, so they have approached a specialist doctor in London who has given them hope.

To sponsor Paul and Jason, you can fill in a sponsor form at Oscar’s.
