Staff at Grantham Hospital have been asked to cut short their festive holidays and return to work because the hospital is so busy.

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust said it was so busy that most wards in its hospitals were full and A&E staff were under a lot of pressure.

Chief nurse Tracy Pilcher said: “Our A&E departments are very busy and out staff that are working have been working over the last few days and are becoming tired.”

She asked for staff who work at Grantham Hospital and other hospitals in the county to get in touch so they can be deployed to those wards where they are needed most. She added that staff are “working in a situation where all our hospital wards are full. I think across the country it’s been a lot busier over the Christmas period than we had anticipated and a lot busier than last year.”
