Grantham Journal letter: An open door to hospital closure

In February last year, I underwent major heart surgery at Papworth Hospital.

After the operation it was agreed that I would attend the Cardiology Department at Grantham Hospital to monitor my progress.

I attended the first clinic in June and saw Dr Khoo, who said I would need a further check up in six months’ time, ie December 2015. This would not be with him as he was leaving.

I waited to be informed of my next appointment, and after hearing nothing, contacted the cardiology department. After some delay I was informed that the cardiology locum had left, all appointments were being cancelled as the department was closing down.

I knew over six months ago that Dr Khoo was leaving, surely in that time a permanent replacement could have been found, unless it is part of the ongoing plot to reduce the services at Grantham Hospital, thereby opening the door for its eventual closure.
