Regards the Memory Lane article – remembering the Parachute Regiment (June 26).

The photograph published of my fellow paras and myself brought back poignant memories of the excitement we all shared parachuting on to Lincoln Common, Spittlegate Aerodrome and other locations.

It really was an honour to serve in the 16th Independent Parachute Company alongside soldiers who had served in the Second World War and indeed at Arnhem.

The photograph was taken in 1958 prior to my being called up for two years of National Service with a commission in the TREME and active service in North Malaya. On my return I commanded 170 CZW REME based at the Sandon Road Barracks.

My thanks to Colin Duller for providing the photograph and to the Grantham Journal for publishing it.

Major Bob Perrin (retired)
