Grantham Journal letter: Wilderness is wonderful

Have your say

I’ve seen a few comments in the Journal about the long grass and lack of management.

I wanted to share my opinion that I think this is a wonderful thing!

In areas less often mown around Grantham I have seen beautiful wildflowers like ox-eye daisies, primroses and common dog violets.

Many plants that people call “weeds” are to others considered wildflowers.

The areas of long grass support a wider diversity of flora species which, in turn, helps pollinating insects and other fauna species, providing Grantham with natural corridors and healthy eco-systems.

To me, the long grass verges are mini meadows and little pockets of wilderness within Grantham, which are much more beautiful than short mown, boring amenity grassland.
