Grantham Journal letters: ‘Armistice Day’ poem.

A poem written by the late Maureen Blakey has been sent in by her husband, Mr K. R. Blakey, of Bridge End Grove, Grantham, to share with readers.

It is entitled ‘Armistice Day’.

Armistice Day...11th of November,

Anniversary time thus we remember,

Kinfolk who were slain in battle,

Slaughtered like a herd of cattle.

Their life’s blood flowed like water,

Menfolk dying for wife and daughter.

This noble sacrifice was not in vain,

The proud red poppy honours their name.
