This week sees us once again look back to how the Grantham Journal office used to be, including the technology we once relied upon.

Thanks again to the family of former compositor and foreman of the composing room Fred Tilley for providing the photos.

Seen above are the Journal’s team of typesetters, operating Compugraphic VDUs in the 1980s, explains our sports editor and former compositor John Burgess.

Perhaps we should think of them and the speed of their computers when we next have a technical problem in the office!
