Grantham man flies the flag for Grantham at World Cup in Russia
Devoted football fan Daniel Wright-Miller, of Castlegate, has just returned home from Russia after watching England play at the World Cup.
Daniel, 25, who works at Thorold and Kent electronics store, on Bridge End Road, spent over a week in Russia to watch England take on Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.
He said: “There’s a group of about 15 of us from all over the country that meet up at most England games. Jack Simmons and Kane Cupit often travel from town too.
“The atmosphere was unbelievable. There was no violence or hostility. The Russians were very friendly.”
"I stayed in a small town outside of Nizhny Novgorod for the Panama game and met a local barman called Romik who took such good care of us. He sorted lifts to the stadium then took me to the train station for my train to Moscow.
"Another highlight was Doug from Rochdale getting the whole bar up in Vilnius karaoke to Rhinestone Cowboy. Lots of positive England fans. People at home only get to see the negative normally."
Daniel hopes it won’t be long until he can return, adding: “I have a ticket for the final should we get there.”
