Grantham mechanic raises £800 for charity to go on Zimbabwe adventure

A mechanic from Grantham will set off on the adventure of a lifetime to the southern African country of Zimbabwe in January.

Simon Hardingham, of Cecil Street, held a cake sale in The George Centre recently and raised £152, taking his total to £895. The money will go to the charity Progressio which helps poor communities around the world.

Simon said: “I’ve just finished a training weekend where I learnt massive amounts about HIV and Aids along with the local culture in Zimbabwe. The weekend gave me a great opportunity to meet other volunteers on the trip. I’m really looking forward to going now and passing on my knowledge as well as learning new techniques.

“The communities I will be working alongside have very little resources so I will be taking out as much sport equipment as my baggage will allow. If anyone has anything they could donate in the way of footballs, tennis balls, cricket sets etc, this would be a great help. I will use the items to bring the community together whilst incorporating sports into lessons about HIV and Aids. Any stationary items would also be a great help.”
