The Meres leisure centre in Grantham has attracted 613,000 visitors in the past 12 months.

On March 25, the centre welcomed its 600,000th visitor. June Tucker, from Grantham, was the milestone visitor and has received a complimentary 12-month membership.

Mrs Tucker said: “It has been great to notice the improvements in the last year and the new gym is really great. It was a great surprise to be the 600,000th visitor and I am very grateful to receive the prize.”

Allen and June Tucker have been members at the centre since 2012 and attend the gym, pool and café around three times every week.

In January 2015, technology was installed at the centre which accurately records visitor numbers. Centre management 1Life say the year on year figures indicate a significant growth in the visitor numbers at the centre and reflect the £600,000 investment made into the facility by South Kesteven District Council and 1Life last summer.

SKDC Business Manager for Venues and Facilities Paul Stokes said: “It’s a testament to the hard work of staff matched with the great investment in 2015 that has enabled Grantham Meres to pass this milestone.

“The 1Life team and Council are committed to working hard to ensure we continue to attract more people from South Kesteven and further afield who want to enjoy their active and healthy lifestyles in great surroundings.”
