‘Elaine’, Lincolnshire’s very own Mobile Chemotherapy Unit recently celebrated its second birthday.

Hope for Tomorrow cancer charity who provide the Mobile Chemotherapy Unit to Lincolnshire NHS Trust, joined staff, patients and specially invited guest Phil Anyan on board the Unit to celebrate the occasion.

Between birthday cake and smiles Phil, whose late wife, Elaine, the Unit is named after, chatted with specialist chemotherapy nurses Annette Percival and Katrina Simpson and heard how the Unit visits Grantham to deliver chemotherapy treatment to patients, reducing travel and waiting time and the stresses and strains of visiting busy hospitals.

Phil said: “I’ve had a good chat with patients this morning and heard first hand their positive responses to the Unit. It’s certainly not like visiting hospital.”

The medical team have said that ‘Elaine’ is to start visiting Skegness in the Summer and Louth in the Autumn, bringing cancer treatment closer to home.

Regional fundraiser for Hope for Tomorrow in Lincolnshire, Dawn Osko said, “In April our charity won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category for our Mobile Chemotherapy Units, so Lincolnshire is really fortunate to have one of these Units and we’re delighted Phil could celebrate with us and see the vital work it’s doing.”
